Americans always say that women don’t matter in Asia and middle east. This is in line with the American/Occidental ideas that “those people” that practice “that religion” are so different from us and ought to be treated like children or animals.

The United States takes steps to “nudge” foreign governments into addressing so called human rights tragedies against women as if they are the “world police force”.

Futhermore, what moral weight can the U.S. leverage in human rights talks when it remains tied to the legacies of Gitmo and Abu Graib?

    The difference between the US and most 3rd world countries is when our soldiers get caught abusing detainees, they get prosecuted like you see in the newspaper today. Abusing/torturing prisoners is not acceptable. It's understandable, but not acceptable to most Americans. Muslim countries think nothing of abusing and torturing women, non-Muslims, and Muslims. I'm so sorry our soldiers put women's underwear on the Muslim prisoner's heads. That must have been real torture for them.

    now that is a good argument, since we do have the biggest movement in womens right, pretty much anywhere in the world. Asia does treat their women with respect, but still controls them alot more than we do. While in the middle east, women arent even allowed to show their faces in public.....yet we are always the bad guys huh?

    moral weight? human rights? You people blow up IED/suicde/car bombs in an effort to kill US soldiers and maybe manage to kill/maim 2-5 US troops. Meanwhile, you set the frigging bomb off in a Kandahar or Baghdad market during business hours and outright kill ~100 or so of your OWN citizens. Yea, you can preach from the moral high ground there. I declare a Fatwah on your use of the internet!
